History: wiki information. ... I have such a love/hate relationship with being in such a tiny fandom, ugh.
Here is another brief summary of the events of the game.
The truth is, the Atelier series is very character-driven and focuses on slice-of-life above overreaching plot. Though Escha and Logy had more overreaching plot that most traditional Atelier games (the Iris Trilogy excluded), most "plot" is still mundane, about the joys of living and a group of unlikely people naturally becoming friends. ... Until like, right at end-game, where it's suddenly more about saving the world and being good to the environment for the benefit of everyone. So! You know! Slice of life with a side dish of environmental awareness! As you do.

Personality: Escha is a cheerful young lady, all bright eyes and brighter smiles, almost all of the time. It's hard to catch her without a song in her heart and a lightness in her step, and honestly, that kind of outright joy can be rather contagious! She's very friendly, regarding strangers as potential friends unless proven otherwise, and will always lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it. Help someone first, ask questions later!
She is also a very hard worker, who is self-motivated enough to get things done in a timely manner without sacrificing her love for her craft. She would go to the ends of the earth and back for the sake of her alchemy, especially if it will help somebody else in the end. Of course, it's easy to be a hard worker when you love what you do, and Escha absolutely adores all aspects of being an alchemist. Even the rough patches have their charm - darkest nights have the brightest stars, after all! Her well of optimism rarely ever runs out, and she uses it to help push her friends to their highest heights as well. Cousin dreams of flying to the edge of the world? Encourage him to build that airship and go for it!! Best friend wants to become the world's greatest witch? Help her learn all of the magic she possibly can, ever!! She cherishes her friends, would do anything for any friend she makes, and she loves seeing them all reach for their dreams. And hey, if they need a nudge in the right direction, or a pep talk, well, here she is! Work hard, do amazing things!!
But in some situations, Escha may very well push herself too hard. Often, she will work herself into the ground for long, long hours, forgetting to eat or even to sleep. Luckily, she has a partner in her atelier that can make her sit down and rest oh my god woman, but without Logy around to be her common sense o' meter (the way she is for him, too!) she's prone to forgetting to take care of herself in the name of helping others or pursuing alchemical greatness.
She's very intelligent, sharp as a tack, and incredibly resourceful - all very necessary skills for an alchemist. However, she's completely unaware of any of this, and therefore constantly undermines herself in the process. She feels like she has so much to learn, it blinds her to how much she has already learned. It's not that she forgets, it's that she can't see the forest for the trees, and she's constantly looking forward and forgetting to press pause long enough to reflect on the past and her accomplishments so far.
Her dream is to become a master alchemist - to craft things that will help the masses, heal the world, save anyone from anything at all. She wants to know the truth about her world - why the Dusk is slowly destroying everything, where it came from, how to stop it. As the inevitable decay grows more and more severe, all she can do is keep trying, push a little harder, and help whoever she can in the process. Her pursuit of knowledge is, by definition, neverending. And yet, she embraces it. She wouldn't have it any other way.
One day, Escha will be a master alchemist. She's already well on her way, though she hardly realizes as much! But along the way, she's going to make amazing memories with all the friends she chooses to surround herself with.

Skills/Abilities: Escha is an alchemist of the classical sort. Give her a recipe and a cauldron, she can make anything and everything. Throughout the game, she gains more skills that imply that there's much more to tossing things in and stirring: the knowledge of items and their characteristics, the intuition to know which ingredients to add in what order, and the ability to draw certain properties out of ingredients in order to carry them over into the synthesized item - then perhaps to use that item as an ingredient in another synthesis, granting the final item a trait that it never would have had otherwise. By endgame, Escha is proficient in all aspects of "old school" alchemy and capable of applying this knowledge to the creation of new things, without a set recipe, and applying item properties to her heart's content to get the end result she desires.
Network Sample: [ Let's assume Escha has taken a job from an in-game NPC to collect ingredients and use them to make some sort of magical item. Let's assume she did just that! Tossed all the things into her cauldron, gave it a proper stir, little bit of her own personal touch... and, done! Well, time to contact the client! But, of course, it goes straight to voice mail... Ah well, she'll just have to leave a message! ]
Um, hello! This is Escha Malier! I'm the one you asked about the magical cleaning solution the day before yesterday. I just wanted to let you know that it's ready! Everything went great, I'm so happy it turned out this well! I'm sure you'll like it - I even tested it out a little bit with my own floors and, wow, I didn't realize fake wood could shine like that... it's kind of amazing, really.
--Oh, sorry, I forget these things have time limits...! [ Ahem! ] Anyway, call me back if you want me to deliver it to you myself! If you want to come pick it up, I'm at home almost always these days... you can come by whenever. Thank you again! I hope to hear from you soon. And if you ever have any other jobs, I'd love to help!
